If you’ve ever tucked little ones into bed, you know that bedtime isn’t always the smooth, peaceful process we imagine it to be. Some nights, it’s full of giggles, wiggly toes, and wild, made-up stories. That’s exactly where the inspiration for A Fun Book began—with the wonderfully silly, unpredictable bedtime moments I’ve shared with my boys.
This isn’t your typical bedtime book. It’s not here to teach a big life lesson or gently guide little ones into dreamland with poetic lullabies. A Fun Book is an experience—a chance to connect, to laugh, and to embrace the joy of being together in those final moments before sleep.
Where It All Started: A Blue Cow and a Child’s Imagination
Like many parents, I’ve been treated to some pretty creative bedtime storytelling over the years. But one night, my son introduced me to something truly special: a blue cow. No backstory, no explanation—just a blue cow. It was random, hilarious, and perfectly him.
That tiny moment of childhood whimsy stuck with me, and from there, A Fun Book was born. It doesn’t follow a traditional story arc. Instead, it’s a playful journey through thoughts, questions, and silly little ideas—just like the ones kids come up with when they’re avoiding sleep.
A Book About Everything (and Nothing at All)
Some books take you on an adventure. Others teach a lesson. A Fun Book simply invites you to be—to sit together, share a laugh, and let the moment unfold however it may. It’s a book without pressure, without expectation. Just pure, lighthearted fun.
The Magic of the Illustrations
Of course, A Fun Book wouldn’t be the same without the wonderfully fun artwork that brings it to life. I was lucky to work with the incredibly talented Manual Herrera, a local (St. Louis) illustrator whose creativity and playful spirit made this book even more special. Manuel was an absolute joy to work with—easygoing, full of great ideas, and able to capture the heart of this book so beautifully. His illustrations add just the right touch of humor and imagination, making A Fun Book as fun to look at as it is to read.
So, if you’re looking for a bedtime book that makes space for togetherness in its simplest form, I hope A Fun Book finds a place on your shelf. It may not be about anything in particular, but sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.

Sharing short moral stories consistently can reduce bedtime anxiety. Children relax into the familiar pattern, and the uplifting themes provide reassurance. Over weeks, families notice improved sleep and stronger empathy as children internalize the positive lessons.
A nightly short story with moral lesson helps children connect actions to consequences. Parents can relate the story’s message to events from the day, showing how morals apply in real life. This reflection builds self-awareness and positive decision-making.
Ending the day with a short story in English with moral signals comfort and closure. After the reading, encourage your child to summarize the message. This reinforces comprehension and gives them confidence in self-expression while promoting sound sleep and emotional security.
